Hi, I have an 18 mth old son w/ FX. He loves to eat and has never had a problem w/ gagging- like I have read some kids do. My problem is that my son will not feed himself!! He wants to eat everything, but only if if I feed him. He has started touching food recently, but still no success in putting it in his mouth. Any suggestions? Or parents that have gone thru this? Is this common w/ fx kids??

Yes I remember my little minx happily sitting back and just enjoying being fed. That's fantastic that your son is willing to eat everything and has no trouble with chewing and no gagging fantastic. My daughter still won't/can't chew and is a fussy eater but thankfully she is self feeding (however only way after she turned 2).

When you are feeding him and you are at the last spoonful do hand over hand and build this up backwards if you know what I mean i.e. the first feed hand over hand with one spoon and the second feed try two spoons hand over hand at the end etc ... it's a slow process but with lots of encouragement and praise you'll get there and he'll be going to the fridge soon picking what he wants for himself and eating it by himself.
